Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
This weekend we bid farewell to Deacon Tuan Duc Nguyen who served our parish in the last 10 years as a deacon. We wish him our best wishes on his new assignment at St Antonio de Canon in Anaheim Hills. On Sunday May 5th, 2024 at 9:30am mass,we will welcome our New Deacon David Tao Duc Phan. He used to serve our parish as the Vietnamese Chairman of the Vietnamese Council . Deacon David Tao was ordained in 2019 by Bishop Vann and served at Our Lady of Lavang, Now Bishop Vann assigned him to our parish. May the Lord bless our New Deacon David Tao Phan. Please continue to support our PSA 2024 appeal. May the Risen Lord bless you with joy, peace and love.
As we continue to reflect on the meaning of the Resurrection, the Fourth Easter Sunday is called Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, when we celebrate the risen Lord as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. The priest in charge of a parish is called pastor because “pastor” means shepherd of Christ’s sheep. As a shepherd, he leads, feeds, nurtures, comforts, corrects, and protects Christ’s sheep in the parish. The earliest Christians saw Jesus as the fulfillment of the ancient Jewish dream of a good shepherd. They also wished to include the Gentiles as part of God’s flock.
In today's First Reading, Peter asserts unequivocally before the Jewish assembly that there is no salvation except through Christ the Good Shepherd whom the Jewish leaders have rejected and crucified and in whose name the apostles preach and heal. In the Second Reading, St. John tells us how Yahweh the Good Shepherd of the Old Testament expressed His love for us through His Son Jesus, the Good Shepherd, by making us His children. In the Gospel passage the Pharisees ask Jesus to clarify whether he is the promised messiah. Jesus’ answer is “I am the good shepherd”. Jesus claims that as a good shepherd he knows his sheep and loves them so much that he is ready to die for them. The Gospel text offers us both comfort and challenge. The comforting good news is that Jesus the Good Shepherd knows us, provides for us and loves us. The challenge is that we should become good shepherds to those entrusted in our care, the good sheep in our parish, the sheepfold of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
The message for us this week is that we are called to become good shepherds: Everyone who is entrusted with the care of others is a shepherd. Hence, pastors, parents, teachers, doctors, nurses, government officials and politicians are all shepherds. However, let us pray and encourage your sons and daughters to respond to God’s call to become priests, religious brothers, and sisters for the future of the Church. Indeed, let us pray that we will have more priests, brothers, and sisters for our local church.

Quí Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em thân mến!
Tuần này chúng ta tri ơn và tiễn Thầy Sáu Nguyễn Đức Tuấn sẽ đi phục vụ tại Giáo Xứ St Antonio de Canon ở Anaheim sau 10 năm phục vụ tại Giáo Xứ St Columban. Ngày 5 tháng 5, 2024 chúng ta sẽ chào mừng Thầy Sáu Phan Đức Tạo. Thầy Tạo là một người mà chúng ta biết trước đây là từng làm chủ tịch cộng đoàn chúng ta. Sau khi thụ phong Phó Tế Thầy đã phục vụ tại Giáo Xứ La Vang và nay Đức Cha Vann đã bổ nhiệm về Giáo Xứ St Columban để phục vụ .Giáo Xứ chúng ta sẽ chào mừng thầy vào thánh lễ Chúa Nhật Ngày 5 tháng 5 trong thánh lễ Mỹ 9:30 sáng và chiều lễ Việtnam lúc 3:15pm Kính mời quí ông bà anh chị em tới để chào mừng Thầy Phn Đức Tạo. Giáo xứ mong rằng chúng ta tiếp tục đóng góp cho qũi mục vụ 2024 để Đức Cha Vann có thể chu toàn được việc hỗ trợ cho các chương trình của toàn giáo phận. và giúp cho giáo xứ chúng ta có hệ thống âm thanh mới. Nguyện xin Chúa Kitô Phục Sinh ban tràn đầy ân sủng và bình an trên toàn thể quí vị!
Chúa nhật thứ tư Phục Sinh gọi là Chúa Nhật Chúa Chiên Lành là ngày thế giới cầu nguyện cho Ơn Thiên Triệu. Khi chúng ta mừng lễ Chúa Giêsu là Ðấng Chăn Chiên Nhân Lành, Ðấng đã hy sinh cho đàn chiên. Linh mục phục vụ Giáo Xứ cũng gọi là Cha Sở vì Ngài dẫn dắt chiên của Chúa Giêsu. Là người mục tử, Cha cũng hướng dẫn, coi sóc và bảo vệ đàn chiên Chúa trong Giáo Xứ. Những giáo dân thời sơ khai nhìn thấy Chúa Giêsu là Ðấng chu toàn sự mong đợi của Dân Do Thái và là Ðấng Chăn Chiên Nhân Lành, và họ cũng mong những anh chị em Dân Ngoại cũng là phần tử trong đàn chiên của Chúa. Trong bài thứ nhất từ sách Tông Ðồ Công Vụ, thánh Phêrô đã xác tín cho cộng đoàn Người Do Thái rằng ơn cứu độ chỉ có trong Chúa Kitô Ðấng Chăn Chiên nhân hậu mà các thủ lãnh của người Do Thái đã chối bỏ, đóng đinh và vì danh Ngài các Tông Ðồ đã rao giảng và chữa lành. Trong bài thứ hai, Thánh Gioan đã nói Ðấng Yavê Mục Tử Nhân Lành được diễn tả trong Cựu Ước đã diễn tả tình yêu của Ngài qua Đức Giêsu, Vị Mục Tử Nhân Lành và cho chúng ta ơn làm nghĩa tử. Qua bài Phúc Âm, người Pharisêu hỏi Chúa Giêsu để xác định rằng Ngài có phải là Ðấng mong đợi của Mesia không? Chúa Giêsu trả lời “Ta là Mục Tử Nhân Lành”. Chúa Giêsu nói “Ta là mục tử tốt lành, Ta biết các chiên Ta, Ta yêu mến chiên Ta hết mình và sẵn sàng để chết cho đàn chiên”.
Những bài đọc tuần này mời gọi chúng ta hãy trở nên những mục tử tốt lành. Chúng ta là những cha mẹ, thầy cô, bác sĩ, nhân viên trong chính quyền và những vị dân cử là những mục tử. Chúng ta trở nên những mục tử tốt bằng cách yêu mến những người đã trao phó cho chúng ta. Chúng ta hãy biết lắng nghe cầu nguyện, nâng đỡ và ủng hộ quảng đại những vị lãnh đạo mà Chúa đã gởi đến để phục vụ cho chúng ta. Chúng ta cũng hãy cầu nguyện và khuyến khích các con cái, cháu chúng ta hãy đáp lại tiếng gọi của Chúa để trở nên những linh mục, tu sĩ nam nữ cho cánh đồng truyền giáo của Giáo Hội.

¡Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo!
Este fin de semana nos despedimos del diácono Tuan Duc Nguyen, quien sirvió a nuestra parroquia en los últimos 10 años como diácono. Le deseamos nuestros mejores deseos en su nueva asignación en St. Antonio de Canon en Anaheim Hills. El domingo 5 de mayo, en la misa de las 9:30 am., daremos la bienvenida a nuestro nuevo diácono David Tao Duc Phan. Solía servir a nuestra parroquia como presidente vietnamita del Consejo Vietnamita. El diácono David Tao fue ordenado en 2019 por el obispo Vann y sirvió en Nuestra Señora de Lavang. Ahora el obispo Vann lo asignó a nuestra parroquia. Que el Señor bendiga a nuestro nuevo diácono David Tao Phan. Por favor, continúen apoyando nuestro llamamiento PSA 2024. Que el Señor Resucitado los bendiga con alegría, paz y amor.
A medida que continuamos reflexionando sobre el significado de la resurrección, el Cuarto Domingo de Pascua se llama el Domingo del Buen Pastor y el Día Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones, cuando celebramos al Señor resucitado como el Buen Pastor que da su vida por sus ovejas. El sacerdote a cargo de una parroquia se llama pastor porque "pastor" significa pastor de las ovejas de Cristo. Como pastor, dirige, alimenta, nutre, consuela, corrige y protege a las ovejas de Cristo en la parroquia. Los primeros cristianos vieron a Jesús como el cumplimiento del antiguo sueño judío de un buen pastor. También deseaban incluir a los gentiles como parte del rebaño de Dios.
En la primera lectura de hoy, Pedro afirma inequívocamente ante la asamblea judía que no hay salvación sino por Cristo el Buen Pastor a quien los líderes judíos han rechazado y crucificado y en cuyo nombre los apóstoles predican y sanan. En la segunda lectura, San Juan nos cuenta cómo Yahveh el Buen Pastor del Antiguo Testamento expresó Su amor por nosotros a través de Su Hijo Jesús, el Buen Pastor, al hacernos Sus hijos. En el pasaje del evangelio, los fariseos le piden a Jesús que aclare si él es el Mesías prometido. La respuesta de Jesús es "Yo soy el buen pastor". Jesús afirma que, como buen pastor, conoce a sus ovejas y las ama tanto que está listo para morir por ellas. El texto del evangelio nos ofrece comodidad y desafío. Las buenas noticias reconfortantes son que Jesús el Buen Pastor nos conoce, nos provee y nos ama. El desafío es que debemos convertirnos en buenos pastores de los que se nos han encomendado y buenas ovejas en nuestra parroquia, el redil de Jesús, el Buen Pastor.
El mensaje para nosotros esta semana es que estamos llamados a ser buenos pastores: todos los que tienen el cuidado de los demás son un pastor. Por lo tanto, pastores, padres, maestros, doctores, enfermeras, funcionarios del gobierno y políticos son todos pastores. Sin embargo, recemos y animen a sus hijos e hijas a responder al llamado de Dios a ser sacerdotes, hermanos y hermanas religiosos para el futuro de la Iglesia. De hecho, recemos mucho para tener más sacerdotes, hermanos y hermanas para nuestra iglesia local.
